thiamine pyrophosphatase
(= TPP; carboxylase)
The coenzyme form of vitamin B1 (thiamine), deficiency of which causes beri-beri. Forms the prosthetic group of pyruvate dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase and transketolase, in which it is involved in transfer of a 2-carbon unit. Marker for the trans cisternae of the Golgi apparatus.
